Hello Ladies!
I just took the plunge and went live here on Substack for the first time.
Did you get the invitation to watch me yesterday?
I discussed Manterrupting and how women can finish a sentence in work meetings.
I was a little scared but curious to try out the Live feature on Substack.
Recently, I have seen more authors and coaches go live, and I enjoy watching their off-the-cuff discussions from their kitchens and yoga studios.
Going live means recording yourself in real-time, and it uploads to Substack for your subscribers or everyone, in case you are wondering.
I share this achievement because I want you to Love Your Voice enough to go live, too. In our overly edited, filtered, and manicured online spaces, let’s be REAL.
If you are Live curious, I encourage you to go for it!
Here are a few tips before you go live:
Have a rough outline or bullet points of what you want to discuss. (I used a checklist from my public speaking workbook)
Start talking while the button says it’s still connecting because it starts recording sooner than expected. The live feature is only available on your phone App for now. You can invite guests is that sounds fun.
Choose a topic you are passionate about! I felt energized to discuss the alarming rate at which men interrupt women in work meetings. I’m preparing for a large corporate workshop, and the women leaders shared that men often cut them off and dismiss their contributions. We all agreed it’s akin to the modern-day equivalent of saying, “Hey, hon, can you get the boys some coffee?”
If possible, greet the people who join your live recording. I was too unfamiliar with all the bells and whistles the first time, but I’ll be sure to welcome more viewers next time. I see great potential with the chat feature for live workshops!
K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, sweetheart). Experiment and make it low stakes, for starters. People love to see you from the start.
If you feel nervous, do my vocal warm-up tutorial before you go live HERE.
Share your live recording with us in the Love Your Voice Community Chat or in the comments so we can celebrate and support your live post together!

What a terrific idea and encouragement! I'm going to have to plan on going live to see if I can muddle through it!
Thanks for the pointers, and for being so brave. You did great!
